Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. saidMonday it will pay $167 million for 15 percent of Chinese onlinevideo game company The9 Ltd.
Electronic Arts (nasdaq: ERTS – news – people) said the move is part of its ongoing efforts to partner withstrong regional companies to bring more online games to the Asianmarket.
Both companies also said Monday they completeda licensing agreement that lets The9 (nasdaq: NCTY – news – people) retain exclusive licensing agreements in mainland China forElectronic Arts “EA Sports FIFA Online” soccer game.
